Suzuke 140 2 stroke,,running fine then revved

my buddie was out yesterday, running fine at about 3500 rpm, then all of a sudden it revs up but goes now where,,,had to limp in.
He pulled the prop and the hub and prop seem fine,,he did not hit anything either,,,just crusing along. I believe it is a 98, It is a 140 2 stroke.
Any ideas??

sounds like a lower end issue, did you check to see if prop is still spinning while in gear? does it clunk when shifting into gear, you jnow the sound it usually makes going into reverse or forward? double check your linkage.

nope no sound,,it was spinning and he was able to get in to the dock about a mile out,,granted just above idel rpm's,,also in the driveway it spun fine while not under load of course

the hub might look fine, but it might be spun ...... put it in gear and try to turn the prop by hand, make markings then you will see if the bush was spun or not .....
