Hi Guys,
I have a 1985 DT55 Suzuki motor that has been acting up on me. I really would like to buy a service manual but most that I have found are for 1988+. I am really looking at the SELOC online version as this is most convenient for me.

My question is will the 1988 service manual be good enough? I am a DIY guy and wouldn't be inclined to do a total engine rebuild but would like to try diagnosing possible fuel or sensor problems.

To give you an idea of my problem, it is very similar to what a lot of people talk about in this forum. I am able to run quite well with the engine most of the time but randomly it will loose what feels like 1/3 to 1/2 the power and then I will lose plane. After this happens if I rip back on the throttle and leave it idle a bit, sometimes I can get it to go again, sometimes it will not power back up or might even stall.

From what I have seen in the forum this could be a number of problems, mostly fuel related and sometimes sensor related. It sounds like if it is fuel related then a complete carb cleaning/rebuild and spark plug/leads and possibly fuel pump is in order. I had this all done last year in the fall, except the fuel filter which I am looking into now. If it is a sensor problem it sounds like it is the rev limiter kicking in because one of the sensors is giving a bad reading (ie. low oil which is not true, or no water flow which is not true).

I didn't have this problem since the rebuild last fall until this weekend when it was the first time towing a tube with the kids. I am wondering if stress was too much and if that's a clue.

Thanks for any insight at all!
