I just bought a 1991 Lund with a 1989 Suzuki 30 hp pull start. To make a very long story short, the pull cord broke about 3/4ths the way back on the first time I tried to start it on the boat launch.fist of all is this something I should try to fix myself with relative easy or should I leave it to a pro? Second can I buy a lawn mower cord or should I use a sailing rope? Finally Is there spring in there that retracts the cord and how hard is that to work with?(I imagine there is). I searched for previous post to help me with this problem but could not find anything. Thanks for you help.

Re: Suzuki 30ph pull cord

Hi, you can replace it with any rope as long as it is sort-of the same thickness and length of the old one ..... it is quite tricky and frustrating winding the coil spring back in but after alot of swear words you'll get it right ... just before you pull it all apart, memorize where everything goes, and pull it apart very slowly ....

Hummm??? Thanks for your info.I think I might give it a try myself. Whats the worst that can happen? If I can't fix it just take it to a pro?

I'll let everyone know how it turns out for future reference.

Yep turned out just as I thought. Now that I have taken everyting apart, I think I can fix it next time. Since I didn't know what I was doing and took apart unnecessary parts and can get them back together. Time for the dealer.
