Yes, but it actually drops down to something more like 1,500 RPM or so. The button on the port side of the engine will still over ride the low RPM operation if you get an overheat, I belive. By the way, on those engines there really isn't any temperature sensor but there is a water flow sensor. In each head, just below the top spark plug if I recall, there is a black plug that inserts into the center of the head and is held in place with one screw. That is the flow sensor. It has a 'flapper' arm that extends into the water passage and the flow of water lifts the arm. If you loose water flow for whatever reason the arm falls and you get an overheat alarm, even though it has nothing to do with heat, just water flow. Those things do fail, I had to replace two of them on my old DT-200. They are not particularly expensive and can be changed in about 5 minutes by a do-it-yourself type person who happens to own a phillips screwdriver. The sensor has three wires, two of which are used, and it plugs into color coded pigtails that are located inside the plastic box that holds the coils. Wire colors are different for the port and starboard side sensors as I recall, so you have to get the right one.

Thom

Actually, the low water alarm drops the engine to 3,000 rpms. I have twin 1988 DT200 and have had problems with those sensors.... Also, I had the "low oil warning" module die on one of my engines. When this happened the motor lost spark to 3 cylinders and would only run at an idle. I just disconnected the module and it's run fine ever since.

-Rob A.

When mine started goofing off I just unplugged them.
I rely on water pressure guage tapped on the left side of the block.
