Suzuki 96 DT140 lower unit

Would a lower unit from a 95 Suzuki DT140 work and fit OK on a 96 Suzuki DT140?
The 95 has a 25 " shaft,not sure of the shaft length on the 96.
I'm looking to swap gearcase housings as the 96 has 2 cracks in it.

Not a Suzuki guy(cept for bike) but I BELIEVE heard that 115 case back then was same as 140 on zukis....would have to match shafts though, no matter what

Browns point shows the same part # for the gearcase housing for a several year span.
Any idea where I can get a lower unit gear case housing or is it sold as a complete lower unit?

There are lots of places that will sell you either....do you realize the expense of putting a lower unit together will be MUCH more than buying one already together(used)? Shimming a lower unit (aligning the gears) isn't done quickly....

Do you think replacing a lower unit is a do it your self job? I have a SELOC service manual and I can turn wrenches but never did much with outboards. I don't want to spend much because it's a 96 motor and I bought it used. There is a 95 DT140 for sale local but the power head froze up on that one.What would a used lower unit cost?

very easy to replace a full lower unit, but if u think u can just pull yours apart and shim everything, have fun, it takes time and feel

Would I be able to buy a used lower unit with a 20" shaft , remove that shaft and put in my present 25 inch shaft or is each driveshaft matched to the other shaft as a set?
