I once again place myself before the oracles of knowledge on iboats.com in the hopes that you can maybe give me an idea as what to do next. To start 2003 Suzuki DF 70 with 300 hours on the engine. Just "tuned up", new plugs, filters all the ways around including high and low pressure fuel filters, new impellor, tuned prop at Bobby Soles, new control cables, new battery cables, new fuel line. The tune up was all regular maintence but everything else was replaced secondary to being worn out. I run small 6 gallons on deck gas tanks to the engine. I did all the work myself. I think that is all the info I can give about the engine, now for the symptoms. Since the tune up I have issues with it running rough and sluggish from 0-WOT. Tracked down a bad plug, replaced it and is running better for sure. Checked for spark on all 4 cylinders and almost electrocuted myself in the process, good spark, very good spark. Still sluggish and now having difficult time getting it to idle smooth. Seems to need to idle at almost 800-900rpm or will cut out. Attempted to adjust control cables, seems to be adjusted right until I go out the next morning and then can't get engine to start unless I advance the Idle throttle. Seems to be about 1/4inch play in the cable at the throtle to when the engines begins to react and REV up or down. Today difficult to get started, advanced idle throttle, fired up, after warming up ran very well except at low RPM and WOT. Tach seemed to drop a few hundred RPM at a time and then almost cut out all together after a high speed turn. I am not that smart and every thing I took off the boat was replaced with exactly the same model number part except the new fuel line. I got a universal fuel line from West Marine but didn't realize I actually installed a 3/8 inch instead of 1/4 fuel line that originally came on engine. I am out of cheap options as to why the boat is running rough? In medicine it would be called multisystem organ failure and the patient would be taken to the ICU. Well I am hoping someone will be able to save the patient from and expensive trip to the boat hospital.:D Thanks in advance.

Get out your Service manual, Jupiterrn. Do nothing without the manual.

Test the high pressure fuel pump and the injectors. Sounds like loss of pressure to me.

Thats what it feels like as well. I am having a tough time locating a service manual. Any ideas on where to get one?

I bought mine from my Suzi dealer. Sold it along with the boat. :(

Unfortunately, that would be me. I appreciate the website though. I will call for a service manual today. Great parts list.

JB, did you throw the manual in with the boat, no charge? Just curious.

Yup. I believe everyone should have the Owner's Manual and a Service Manual for their outboard.

This is especially true for high tech outboards. Even a DF70 is like a wife who speaks a foreign language. If you don't know what she is saying you are in for misery.

If it ran ok before you worked on it, then it is something you did during the tune-up. Start by properly adjusting the throttle cables which are now hopelessly out of adjustment if you did it using the "guess and by gosh" method. There are a thousand threads here on how to properly adjust throttle and shift cables. Do a search.
