I recently purchased this engine as a backup/kicker for my boat. It is the manual version (with a pull start).

While I am trolling with this engine I would like to be able to charge the battery. I enquired at a local boat show if this was possible with an adaptor or something wiring it to the battery. The mechanic told me that this was not possible as the engine did not have an alternator. But according to the suzuki marine website, it does indeed have one 12v 6.6 amps. Am I reading it incorrectly ?

If I can indeed do this where can I get an adaptor ?

Confused and would like an answer to this problem - Thank you

Re: Suzuki DF MLK 9.9 hp Alternator or not ?

From what I've seen, most of the manual start motors did not have alternators, whereas, the electric start motors do have alt.
OR, that's what I found when as I was looking for parts to convert manual pull motors to elec start motors.

I've converted two motors.
Neither with the intention of getting an alternator. They were conveted to get a starter on a manual pull motor.
After all was said and done though...both had alternators/stators.

I took good running pull start motors. Found as close as I could, the same motor with a starter on it, and swaped parts. I bought donor motors to do the conversions. One had a bad powerhead, One had the lower unit, mounting bracket, and half the exhaust can broken off of it.
