Greetings,

Hoping some folks can provide insight and suggestions on my overheating issue. I have a low hour 2001 DF115 that has developed an overheating issue at high RPMs (~5000). Couple times on the water get the alarm and engine cuts back. I stop, turn the engine off, and I can restart no problem and cruise at lower rpms (~4000) with no alarm. Engine and water tell definitely seemed hot at the time but I did not have a thermal gun to take temp. Have the boat home, put on muffs and water tell seems fine at low rpms, but at higher rpms the stream starts skipping a little, and is not the stronger stream that usually occurs at higher rpms when on muffs.

I pulled the lower unit and the impeller and housing seem completely fine. The gasket seemed OK. Pulled the thermostat and that also had a little mineral buildup but also seemed fine. Blew come compressed air into the tell and air passed fine. Only other component I didn't check was the water pressure regulator, but seems that would only be an issue at low rpms? Probably going to start with a new gasket, but figured I'd check if anyone had similar experience or thoughts.

I would start by replacing the impeller
