Hi All
I want to clean out my oil tanks, filter and all the lines as a pm , on the block are two brass pluggs with an oil line going into and out of them. The manual and parts diagramms refer to them as check valves but i beleive they are oil bubblers. From what I have read here on Iboats they are supposed to introduce air into the oil line to break up surface tension and allow the oil to be drawn into the cylinder. I want to pull them out for a clean up but are they a press fit or screwed in ? Also are you actually supposed to be able to see the air bubbles , it doesn't look like they are doing anything. Suspect they are blocked.

test them per the service manual. they are check valves. I have never heard of "bubblers" no reason to mix air with oil.
good luck and keep posting

Hi Rodbolt , sorry got the information from the clymer manual. Lets see if i can get this photo thing to work
checkvalves.jpg

Well it works for me in preview !! , The check valve which is shown in the exploded parts diagram of the oil pump assy. is the silver tube below the brass connector. On the page detailing the clyinder block there are another two check valves and a small piece of tube these are the brass block and the plastic tube. The clymer states that these are made of plastic and get brittle , mine are brass. This is the upper assy and there is a second one below it. you can just see the lower pipe clip. Apparently they are supposed to push a small amount of air into the oil line to break the surface tension.
Has anybody tried getting these out , I dont want to force them as , living in NZ , i know they will be a three week order from Japan.

I would have the new partrs on hand before attempting to remove them. some yamahas use a press in check valve on the recirc system and they get damaged on removal.
good luck and keep posting. it looks to me like it will use crankcase pulses to assist is "spurting oil" into the crankcase. the whole key is to atomize and dispurse the oil into the fuel stream. so a bubbler is a good analogy.

good luck and keep posting

According to my factory Suzuki DT30c manual the air bubbler is supposed to kick in at 3000 rpms. I guess thats when the crank case pressure is strong enough to introduce bubbles into the oil line. Hope that helps.

Adam

Thanks , indeed it does , explains why i cant see any bubbles on muffs. That said , could somebody tell me , on a pulsed pressure fuel pump which kinda works in a similar way and change the diaphram , assuming its not leaking does any crud get stuck in the bores to the engine housing , they look quite narrow and i wondered if they might get blocked up.

you should not have that much carbon on that side of the piston. if you do you have ring problems. you may try clearing it with some carb cleaner.
good luck and keep posting

Re: Suzuki DT 40 oil bubbler ?

One question you had is are they a press or threaded fit. On a dt25/30c they are a press fit. This gained from removing them along with the entire inject oiling system. The motor had some serious issues in the bottom hole but the diffuser in the front half of the crankcase meant to have the oil better atomized when drawn in the fuel stream behind the carberators was in good shape. Getting them out rendered them useless.
