Old motor, in storage long time, It turned over nicely by hand without plugs when I got it. Oiled cylinders, new plugs, new tstat, water flow sensor, water pump, gear oil, carb rebuilds, new oil lines, new fuel pump, new fuel lines, new under cowl fuel filter, cleaned telltale, cleaned oil tank, used air pressure to blow out water passages and low oil and water flow alarms work on Suzuki monitor guage. Compression even at about 125, I do not have a leak down tester.
After a few hiccups it now starts and idles nice on the hose. I put it in the water and it will die at idle in gear. Goes in nicely and after about 15 seconds it slows and stops. Will not take gradual throttle increase, pumping bulb does not help. Sometimes will take alot of thottle and pick up speed. Where should I look for trouble? Carbs? Thanks MartyD

sounds like carbs, easiest way to check, spray carb cleaner while running, stalling. if it picks up you starving for fuel, dirty carbs most likley

Re: Suzuki DT 55 dies at idle in gear

I have a DT100 and have the same problem. Found out that because of emissions, Suzuki has an idle set up that will cut out cylinders below 1800 RPM's. Thus loading up the motor and killing it. The dealer I took mine to is going to take out the idle set up and put in serviceable jets, he says that this will take care of the problem, however they are not supposed to do it because of EPA regulations. I for one don't care what the EPA thinks, I just want my motor to run properly! Hope this gives you another avenue to pursue.
