Suzuki DT 55 Issue

This is my first posting. I have a Suzuki DT 55. It starts and idles fine. I will be cruising along at WOT and it will just drop down to about 2/3 power. Then I can bring it down to idle and back to about half throttle and it will be fine, but for the rest of the day as soon as I bring it above about half throttle, it will fall back into the poor performance. When it is running bad, from half throttle to full throttle sounds like the same level of RPMs.
I brought it into the shop and they tested in a Dyno and could not recreate the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Re: Suzuki DT 55 Issue

Sounds like the either overheating, oil flow or oil level problem.
The CDI unit monitors these and should one not be right the unit reduces the revs to about 3000rpm.
Check these first.
Hope this helps

Brian

Re: Suzuki DT 55 Issue

Had the same engine with the same problem. Turned out to be the water flow sensor (float switch) in the powerhead which would engage the rev limiter as protection to the engine. Mine would occassionally give me grief on acceleration or when I hit a bit of rough water. Drove me crazy. When on the right side of the engine (with transom to the right) remove the cowel and there should be a thing with a wire coming out of it and a couple of screws/bolts near the top rear part of the powerhead. The wire if I remember correct should have a clip on it to quick disconnect. You might try and disconnect the coupling and run the engine and if the problem is gone then just replace the sensor. I'm almost sure it's the culprit.

Manitoba1
