Suzuki DT115STCLT #11503-651057 ? If I have read everything right the 651XXX means it is a 96 model.

Problem: On three occasions out of say, 8 hours of use spread over 6 fishing trips my engine has given an over temp warning. I was not running full speed every time this happened. After turning the engine off and idling for a few minutes it went away. On the last trip I reached back to feel the tell tale stream and it felt very warm. The problem is I have never really felt the water temp when everything was working fine so I have no comparison.

After the first occurrence I removed the thermostat, placed it in hot water, and watched it open then close after it was removed from the water. I checked the engine block temp sensor and it tested good with an ohm meter.

I was going to check the water flow indicator that my shop manual shows but my engine does not have one. It has a plastic plug in its place. The water pump was replaced about 15 hours ago when the lower unit was repaired.

Any suggestions?

yes you have the 1996 model ..... i would have guessed waterflow switch, but seeing that you don't have one ...... have you check the oil flow sensor and the oil level float switch? .....

I'm a little nervous posting because I know nothing compared to these folks...

but recent experience suggests to me that weeds around the lower unit can cause an overheat warning, I assume because they block the water inlet.

Just a thought- I had a recent scare after a really weedy launch, then cleaned weeds carefully, all good now (I think).
