I'm new to boating and need a motor for my boat. I'm looking at one on craigslist. It's a 1984 Suzuki DT140 for $1100. Runs good and looks clean. Does anyone know if this is a 2 stroke or 4 stroke and is it fuel injected? Also, is Suzuki a good brand of outboard? Thanks!!

Suzis are good engines, Larson.

The DT in the model number says two stroke. All 4 strokes are DFs.

Ok, thanks for the info. I'm trying to decide if I should by this 84 suzuki 140 or a 115hp late 80's mercury. They're about the same price. Anyone have an opinion? Thanks

Re: Suzuki DT140 2 or 4 Stroke?

I have a DT140, had a johnson 140. Compression and maintance are the key to buying any outboard. Compression takes a gauge, maintance can most (not always) be judged by shape of boat.

If the boat needs work, chances are the moter has been neglected also. (i.e. guages don't work, cushions need recovered, poor wiring, anyone can polish a boat).

Bought both of mine used, had to spend to bring each up to snuff ($1000+). I like to learn the hard way.

The only stupid question is the one you forget to ask,

Good Luck

Suzuki motors seem good to me.. strong outboards. The two strokes sound amazing and have a decent amount of power. I've only worked on the 150-200s in school, but I love them. Plus, very easy to maintain, as well.
