Hallo out there!
I am lacking good ideas to solve this acceleration problem. Engine starts well and run on a stable idle at 800rpm. But when you want to have a fast acceleration for pulling a wakebord or waterski it hesitates and sometimes die. If slowly open up for the throttle the engin follows most of the time and when passing 1200rpm it accelerates without remarks.
Sounds immediatly as a fuelstarvation problem to me,but I have checked fuel lines for airleaks and that checked out OK. The internal fuel pump I havent figured out yet since I cant find it. Any body give me an idea what it looks like and how it work and expected normal output pressure
Fuelfilters OK, Ignition OK, Compression OK.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. It is a littebit frustrating to aim for the cheapest thing around when mooring.

Hello Flapscrew!
Ok,here's what I would do.First, remove the carburator(s) from the motor and place on newspaper.Get some marine carb cleaner.Disassemble them one at a time and clean out bowl and orifices THOROUGHLY.While your in there make sure the floats are moving freely up/down.While they are apart keep them clean(and covered when not tinkering).Don'T leave a speck of gunk, sand, old gasket, etc. in them or your gonna have problems. After reassembly, install a gasoline filter(inline) on the fuel line to motor.
Re-install the carbs back on the motor and connect control linkage.Purge the fuel line going to motor of some gas then re-connect fuel line to motor.NOTE: A quick check would be to drain a carb or two(drainscrew). If you recognize particles or gunk coming out then definitly do the above.I would do it anyway,as it sounds like a carb problem ;) .

Re: Suzuki DT200 -1987 Acceleration problem

I recently purchased a used boat with twin DT200's (2000) which are EFI. I have been going around in circles trying to solve a problem with one of the engines stalling when I idle back to my dock. I now belive that the fuel pumps are marginal and can not pump enough fuel when loaded down at idle once the gas tank is below a certain level. I am in the process of changing to smaller props so that the engine can speed up. With the current 22 inch props my engine rpm drops below spec. According to the manual, all of the DT200's use the same low pressure fule pumps (2 per engine) and I have rebuilt mine. The EFI versions have a third electrical high pressure pump. The low pressure pumps are located behind the oil tank and look somewhat like hockey pucks with hoses attached. I hope this helps.

Thanks to Reel Appeal and Mikem!
Carbs was clened last winter and also a in line fuelfilter was installed at the same time.
at this time I discovered small plastic grains float canisters, might be worthwile to take a look again. And Mikem I am also leaning towards the fuel distrubution as cause. Do you by the way have the spec for idling RPM. I like to know how things turn out with your new props. Myself I have a standard 22"prop.
Stay afloat.

Re: Suzuki DT200 -1987 Acceleration problem

According to the Suzuki service manual, the in gear idle speed for the carbureted DT200's is 600 - 700 RPM. It is 50 more for the EFI engines. With my boat and the 22 inch props it idles well below this and if I give it enough gas, I'm going too fast for no wake. I tried to replace the props yesterday, but had the wrong thrust washers.

Good Luck
