Have a 03 DT225 that I would like to bump up the idle a bit. It's at about 500 rpm and sometimes will stall going into reverse. Looks like there is a nut with a screw in it on the throttle body that would do it but don't want to start without knowing for sure. Thanks

Re: Suzuki DT225 idle

if its the EFI 2 stroke then no there really is no idle adjustment, it either works as designed or its broke, same with the EFI 4 stroke.
idle speed is programed into the ECU and it either idles where its supposed to or its broke.

yes that is the idle adjustment screw ,make sure you lock it back in place ,and not to go to high ,best to do in water after warm up!or check your manual for your year engine idle speed
i think 750-850 (not sure) in gear

butter one
not sure on the 03 model, on the years prior 2 stroke EFI single throttle body that screw set the TPS voltage at idle as well as the shutter angle at idle, most EFI motors dont set the idle by a stop screw it sets the TPS voltage and you can set it with the throttle body on the bench.
double check your service manual.
most EFI motors have several sensors a TPS includedthat provide information to the ECU regarding throttle angle,RPM, engine load ,via a map or intake air pressure sensor, and engine temprerature as well as intake air temperature.
by using feed back from all the sensors the ECU's basic fuel and timing map is corrected to insure a stable idle and RPM throught the RPM range.
if it slows down slightly at idle the ecu should correct it.
thats why most EFI motors do not have an idle screw.
it confuses the ECU due to the raise in TPS voltage and the drop in intake air pressure due to the shutter angle increasing.
this may or may not all apply to suzuki's but its a basic EFI.
so far yamaha is about the only US outboard that uses an oxegen density sensor in the exhaust stream to further alter the ECU's fuel map.
thats why I say with EFI it either works as designed or its broke. there are really no periodic adjustments or tweaks to be done in normal operation.
so before tweaking that screw double check your service manual or you could create more issues than you solved.

on all v6 efi suzuki's that screw adjusts the idle the tps is on top and it's voltage is adjusted on top you don't want mess with that!you shouldn't have to turn the screw to much
