Suzuki DT30 gear linkage

Hello
i am changing the impeller on my dt30 i am not sure how to disconnect the gear-change rod i did a search and found two answers one said to disconnect under the carbs and the other said disconnect the rod after lowering the bottom unit and putting in reverse. anybody done one ?

If it's like Yamaha, the shift rod just slips on and off a splined shaft down near the water pump, nothing to take loose. Good Luck!

i had a look at a badly scanned manual and it says i have to disconnect the clutch rod but does not say where to disconnect it?
