My 86 DT30 starts great when cold, idles great is great...except if I take it for a long run and then have to idle, it dies and will not start again for quite awhile. I just put in some Seafoam and haven't run much through yet. Does anyone have any other ideas. This is the second time this has taken place. Help.

I know nuffink but.....
Sounds like its a bit rich. Hence the great cold start as in , its got the choke on a bit. When its warmed up its a bit too rich and wont fire up to easily as its being flooded. If its not had one before its time for a crab overhaul. Assuming everything else is ok a guess would be some crud in the needle valve or the float level now too high. Its also time to replace all the fuel and oil lines as they are starting to break up.

Okay I took it out again today. I changed my plugs and it seemed to work fine tonight. Plugs were bad. Not fouled but quite pitted. The engine does not seem to overheat. No buzzer. The water is warm but not scalding hot. (I am not sure how to test for overheat, since there does not seem to be an alarm.) I will keep my fingers crossed for faulty plugs.

Novaart,

If you have not changed the waterpump, you are WAY overdue-on borrowed time.

I bought a water pump kit and will attempt a replacement when it arrives. I get plenty of water out both the rear and small pee hole on the side.
