Suzuki DT65 Bogging Down

I have a 1988 Suzuki DT65 that has not been run in about a year. It starts OK, idles OK, and runs OK at slow speeds. The problem is that as soon as I open the throttle, it bogs down and cuts out after about 2 seconds.

What can be the cause of this very irritating problem?

Thanks Deejaycee. I went and bought the fuel pump kit; I'll put it in tomorrow and report how it goes.

With fingers crossed...

Re: Suzuki DT65 Bogging Down

I was finally able to replace the diaphram. (The Suzuki manual showed no spring in the fuel pump drawing so we didn't know if it would be good to use the spring. We put the spring in as there was one present when we pulled the old diaphram. (Which was NOT ruptured or torn although it WAS worn.)

Replacing the diaphrams didn't help.

We're pretty sure that the middle carb is gummed up as it runs much better when we squirt a little ether in it at full throttle. (There's little difference when the ether is squirted in the top or bottom carbs.)

So we're looking to pull the middle carb off for cleaning.

Hi countingman,

I am experiencing similar problems. Let me know how it goes and I will try the same. Also let me know if it was too much trouble taking apart the carb. I was told that all 3 carbs need to in sync. Let me know if face any problems there so that I can avoid them.

Thanks.

mmmm ... normally that fixes the problem instantly ... I would suggest cleaning all the carbs and not just one, then you know it is done properly, soak in carb cleaner over night and then blow out with compressed air ..... if the propblem still persist, you need to check your spark plug gap, fuel filters and lines and ventilation on the tank ....

I had a similar problem with my 94 DT65. check your oil flow sensor and your throttle position sensor. I had a loose connection (disconnected wire) on the wire harness go the trottle sensor. Would idle and run fine upto a about 1500-2000 RPMs then bog down.

look for loose wires and connections. Here is where I had the loose wire. (tried to upload the image but it doesn't appear to be working)... if you like, i can email it to you.

(by the way, any advice on how to remove the lower unit would be appreciated. mine drops 1/2" and then stops)
