Re: Suzuki DT8

Suzuki

DT 8 = 8 hp (2-stroke)

0801= 08 means 8 hp (01 I do not know)
7 37904 =first 7 is -77, -87 or -97 (the rest is just continue of serial number)

Color of Your Suzuki outboard can help determine what decade it belongs to.

2-stroke color:
(Blue: 1980-1982)
Light grey ("silver"): 1983-1988
Grey(almost like grey+green mixed): 1989-2001

You probably have a 1987 or 1997 DT8 since between 1975 and 1979 there was A-F before the numbers (1975=A, 1976=B, 1977=C, 1978=D, 1979=F) so You probably do not have a 1977.

I had a Suzuki DT65 1991 before.

/Bo

Re: Suzuki DT8

Thank you so much Bo,
My is light Gray, that will make it 1987 8HP (2 Stroke)
Is the Fuel/oil ratio 100/1? Mine has a label with a Fuel pump logo next to it with 100/1

Thank you

Re: Suzuki DT8

Hi again,
Check here:
http://archive.bibalex.org/web/20010801165541/goa-northcoastoil.com/tips/obmixing.html
(scrool down to Suzuki)

Seems 1 part oil for 100 part fuel (1:100) is OK for Your DT8 1987 for normal use.
1:50 is recommended to use for Your outboard if "Severe Service", but for "Normal Service" it is OK to use 1:100 according to above site. I assume it has passed the first 5 hours break in period since it is 1:25 ratio then.

If You want You can use biodegradable 2-stroke oil (I used that for 3 years for my DT65 before). Otherwise any TCW-3 rated oil will be fine. I used 95 octane leadfree gas with my DT65 when I had that outboard (because that is what is most common gas in my country). I use Yamaha F115 4-stroke now.

Some biodegradable 2-stroke oil I know of (in my country):
Castrol Biolube 100
Mobil 1 Outboard
Quaker State Synquest Outboard & Snowmobile
Valvoline Syn Power Outboard 2T
Cargo Poly-Twin

/Bo
