What is the purpose of the exhaust plates. I had a problem of my engine only running on 3 cyl and the mechanic said I had a bad exhaust plate allowing water to enter the cylinders. It now runs on all six so I guess he was right. What I can't understand is why the problem would be intermittant?

would depend on water pressure, the size of the leak and the RPM it was running, but its rather common in saltwater.

Re: Suzuki ss150 Exhause Plates

rodbolt- The engine is an 89 with quite a bit of freshwater use but never in salt. The engine would start right up but only run on 3 cyl for about 10 - 15 min and then run fine the rest of the day. I didn't push it very hard while this problem was happening so I don't know how it affected top rpm. It seemed temperature related as this started happening when it was about 35deg out. I haven't been able to test it on the water yet but I have started it on the hose a couple of times and it seems to run fine on all six. Is it possible that the engine heat from the firing cyl caused enough espansion to prevent further water intrusion? Thanks
