I am new to this forum and have found this site extremely helpful.

Now to my problem. I have a Suzuki year 2000, two stroke, EFI 200HP outboard engine. It has been extremely reliable since I bought the motor, however, now it won’t start. It will turn over when I try to start it, but it won’t sputter or anything now.

After I turn the key, I get a series of beeps. First 2 beeps, then 4 beeps (or the other way around) and the check engine warning light flashes.

This happened several weeks ago once for a brief moment, but it did not last and the motor quickly started and ran with no trouble. Now the problem seems to not want to go away.

Any thoughts or ideas from the experts here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!
JW

Re: Suzuki Starting Problems

Hi,
On older DT200 the "Check engine" lamp flashing pattern 2-4 indicate an engine speed sensor (gear counter coil) failure. On newer DT200 I do not know if it is the same.
But You said the beeps was 2-4. Is the "Check engine" lamp also flashing in same pattern?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, the check engine light blinks as it beeps.

Re: Suzuki Starting Problems

Hi again,
Wait a little and someone with a factory Suzuki manual (shop manual) can probably verify the beep/flashing code.
Don't trust my explanation yet since it apply to older DT200 than Yours.
