Hey there. hopefully someone out there in boatland can finally put this ongoing question to rest... It's been hard to track down an answer to this one on Iboats, and in my service manual... How many poles does my 1995 Suzuki two-stroke 75 hp alternator have? I believe it has 12... Is that correct ? if so, does that mean a need a tach that says 12p., or 6p. meaning 6 pulses? Thanks for any help

Re: Suzuki Two stroke Tachometer?

You are correct. Your stator has 12 poles and the setting would be for 6P (pulses).

Re: Suzuki Two stroke Tachometer?

Hey thanks man, I appreciate the help... the reason I was asking is because i hooked up a tach that I got free the other day which was set at 6P, on the back of the tach. When I ran the motor it settled at 1100 rpm's after warm. when I checked the manual, the table said that my motor should idle at 600-700 rpm's... I wasn't sure If maybe it was reading double what it should, meaning that my motor was actually idling at approximately 550 rpm's... seamed reasonable explanation from a friend since the motor doesnt really sound like its idling 400 rpm's over what it should. Im thinking that I need to wait to take it on the water and see what it reads at running speed and at WOT... then I'll know if its even close to correct... thanks again, matt
