swap cabin and arch lights to LED

I'm going to swap my lighting to LED's this spring. Has anyone done it on their Prestancia/Monticello? I'm curious to know what bulbs to order. My cabin lighting is push and turn lights (round base, roundish bulb) and my arch lights are tubular, with the contact ends ending in a point.

Re: swap cabin and arch lights to LED

I'm looking to do the same on my Elegante. My arch light fittings are looking dirty and tired so I will replace the whole unit with an LED unit of the same diameter and the same for the courtesy lights rather than just replacing globes. Interesting to note that I have only replaced 3 globes in 6 yrs despite 840 odd hours on the engines and over 50% of usage is overnight.

I found out the arch lighting are 39mm festoon bulbs. So thats one down. I may also put new fixtures in there are mine are also tired and dirty.

Re: swap cabin and arch lights to LED

i took out most of my bulbs and matched them up with model/sizes from online resources. i then ordered a bunch of LED bulbs, but they were all too cool even though i bought warm white, and not as bright as the originals. they make brighter bulbs, but usually they are bigger/longer to contain more LEDs. but some of my lights wouldn't support a longer bulb.

bsa - if you find arch light replacements that fit into the stock locations, let me know. I'd like to replace mind as well and want them to look flush and clean like the stock ones.

i'd also like to buy an LED anchor light.

Re: swap cabin and arch lights to LED

I replaced all of my interior and exterior lights on my 360 last year including dash lights with LEDs. My radar arch, dash and under swim platform are blue, and the rest are white. My underwater lights are still halogen since there are no LEDs bright enough to work in the murky Chesapeake. I was able to find all of the bulbs on Ebay (festoon, wedge and 2 prong), and the result was great. Even the transom and anchor light is LED. Much brighter, and far less drain on the battery. I found that LED bulbs using 5050 LEDs were brighter.

Re: swap cabin and arch lights to LED

I replaced all my lights on the boat with LEDs. I did the arch with new LED lighting, replaced the whites and added blue LEDs also next to the whites and changed the switch in the dash so it would support up for white, center for off and down for blue. I got the lights at this link Main Page This was the original manufacturer for my lights that were in my arch, they mounted in the same holes. I have a 1990 Prestancia.

I also added a LED dimmer switch on the cockpit and cabin. If you replace your standard bulbs with LED bulbs, you canmot dim them they just go off unless you add the led dimmer.

dpospres - you're in the Chesapeake and have underwater transom lighting? do you have a large swim platform and can you see the lights extend beyond it? about how far? do you have any photos or more info?

WhySoSerious - I do not have the extended platform. The lights do a pretty good job of lighting up several feet behind the boat. They are the Hurleys, so there are four of them totalling 300 watts. Keep in mind that is a 25 amp draw. They look great when docked, as well as cruising at night, but they can't be left on for extended periods when on plane. They need to stay reasonably submerged to keep cool.

Re: swap cabin and arch lights to LED

looks like those LED arch lights come in a more flushed version (A1110). i'll have to do some measuring once i figure out how to remove the stock one.

do you know if they have memory? for instance, i cycle within 3 seconds to go from red, to white, to blue, then turn it off. i then leave and come back an hour later and turn it back on. will it be red or remain blue? does the switching only occur if toggled within 3 seconds? (i have some LED flashlights that have multiple modes. some lights don't have memory and thus go to the next mode with each toggle. very annoying)

I've got them in the boat but never paid attention. I think it always returns to the first color in the cycle.

The tri color LED's do not have a memory. They always start white. Turn them off and on, they change color to Red, then to blue, and back to white.

I can't remember how the factory lights are held in place, I know it was simple to take them out though.
The new LED fixture fits in the existing hole. 3 screws hold it in place and a shiny silver ring goes on to cover everything up for a nice finish.

no memory? hmm. one blip of white and my night vision is shot.
i forgot, i already have a red LED light in the middle of the arch. i'll probably just replace the oem white lights with white led.

Re: swap cabin and arch lights to LED

fyi, i removed my arch light. it is a spring mount. the opening was around 2.5 inches with no screws.

this means the i2systems Apeiron A1120 should be perfect for the arch of a Doral Elegante.

my only concern are the clips. the arch is really thick and i dont think those clips will go behind it since they are really long. and if it did, how would one remove it? i had to force/bend the stock clips to remove it (and then bent it back to reinstall).

Not sure about those, but in 1990 they were held in with three screws, and the whole fixture popped out.

You are correct, I replaced mine as stated earlier in the forum from the link I provided in my post, it was from the company stamped on the back of the lights when I took them out. Also added two blue ones in the arch. All Leds

I also installed the Tri-Color lights last year and they look awesome. Exact replacement in the arch. Remove the old, cut the wires and attach the new ones, re-insert. Voila! They will always turn on with the "Red" light first so that if you're out at night, you won't ruin your night vision. It takes an additional 20 minutes to readjust your vision again if you turn on the white light.
