Hey guys, I just came across a 1987 evinrude 120hp v4 looper on craigslist for $900. It said no controls just the motor, it ran 3yrs ago and has been stored indoors. I have a 120 johnson v4 looper 1985 model with a missing powerhead, from what I've been reading here it should be a match, am I right? I would just swap complete motors but I need a long shaft which mine is for the pontoon boat and this other one is a short shaft. How much do you think the powerhead is worth if they'll seperate it? Being mainly a sailor with limited outboard experience this is new stuff to me and I will have to pay someone to do the work, but the sellers seem to know even less, they responded to my questions with ,what part is the powerhead? Thanks for any help.

The basic powerheads should be the same. I pulled up exploded views of both engines and they look the same. Guess that's why they call them Johnnyrudes.

Value of the powerhead all depends on condition...no more than $300.

Back with another ? after dealing with flooded basement for days. If this other powerhead deal falls thru whats the lowest hp powerhead that will match up with the 120 lower unit I already have. Thanks Tom

its more than a Lower Unit you need to fit up to... its the midesection and wiring, as well as the driveshaft spline LOWER unit....

dont forget the lower colwing and cover has to fit as well....
