As long as you are replacing all components, then it will be OK. I don't really remember the years, but if your '86 had quick-connect ignition fittings and you are confused because the '89 has a terminal board on the electronic component mounting board, don't be. The ignition systems are exactly the same with the exception of how the wires are terminated. However, you should not mix and match blue and black colored components.
One thing that you should consider which will add some reliability: Daisy chain a ground wire from both CD boxes and all three coils. The original system is grounded through the mounting plate with a small black wire from the plate to the bypass cover. Terminate your daisy chained ground at the black ground on the starter side terminal board.
