Swaping OMC Stringers

I was given a boat with a 1974 OMC Ford 302 V8 Model # 990220R Electric Shift. Can I put an outdrive from 1980 305 V8 onto this engine if I change the shift cable as well? I do not know if it still has the hydraulic shift from 1980 (Unlikely I understand)or if has been replaced with the mechanical shift. Thanks.

first thing you need to find out:
Is the 1974 drive high or low profile? note length of exhaust housing

then, if your 74 intermediate has tru-course steering, it is doable.
If it is push-pull steer, not doable unless you have the 1980 intermediate and steering system (including helm and steering wheel).

need to drill out the hole in the intermediate to fit the cable.
Need the shift converter and cables/shifter off the 1980 boat.
