Hi,
I had a glasstream fiberglass that wouldn't do what I wanted, so I swapped for an Astro aluminum. Great boat want to tune up motor 2 Cyl. Mercury, the glue is still present where the id tag should be, but no tag, Question, how do I id the motor???

Check with the cops. It has a good chance of being stolen.

You folks must lead rough lives if the first thing you think of is call the cops.
The guy that I got the boat from is the original owner, 1989, he thinks it is a 35 but not sure. Will the cops have the #s or will they tell me to look somewhere else?? The problem is where else do I look, remember "right info in, right info out".

Where I live outboard engines are required to have the model and serial numbers attached and they are titled. If you were in Texas you would be illegally in possession of an untitled outboard.

Yes, lots of people have them, but it would be . . .um, unwise. . .to accept one.

If, of course hypothetically speaking, you were to possess one of these motors how would you id and get it fixed ? Give it to the cop??

Somewhere is paperwork from when it was sold to the PO. That should identify it by model and serial #.

You were right, went back to the small town that the boat/ motor came from found the original owner. He still had the purchase order from the boat store.
Problem solved.
