I am no mechanic but have to do this myself, even if it takes years!!! I have a 1970 1150 in-line 6 with thunderbolt ignition. The wrap around has 1150 with 2 red stripes. Wanting to return her to her former glory. I noticed there is a broken wire going into the distributor, right where it goes in. I also have a 1967 in line 6, will that distributor go onto my 1970. I do have a cd on Mercury outboards, sometimes hard to follow since they cover many years. If I can't use the 1967 on the 1970, what is the proper way to get the distributor off and will everything have to be retimed again. It seems these motors are very hard on the wires. The manual choke was also rotted in 2. Any insight, book recommendation, any solid piece of info let me hear it. Thx in advance.

Re: swapping distributors

well I've had several view this and no reply. Finding out whether or not I can switch the 2 distirbutors is holding me up. That 1967 has a blown head but there are other good parts on it. I would just like some one to tell me hey stupid they are 2 different types of ignitions. I believe they changed somewhere in 1970. Please respond, Thx in advance.

I would think the '70 is different from the '67. Can you match up all the ign parts(Dissy, Coil, Switchbox)?

You may be able to swap all ign parts over. That is likely your best shot. You might PM Clams Canino with this Q.
