i didnt know where to post this due to the fact of dealing with 2 diffrent brands so here it goes.

I want to put my 40hp merc with trim and tilt on my boat. it currently has an evinrude 35hp with out trim and tilt. I am just wondering if there is going to be alot of hole filling and redrilling of the mounting bolts. I already understand about the controls and wiring.
any help would be appreciated.
also any ideas on what prop i would need to push a 16 ft sylvan would be a help as well.

Your prop should be close to what's on the old motor.Take it off and check for #s
Yes the mounting bolts are probably gonna be off a bit.
The main thing is to make sure the cavitation plate is in the same area.

the mounting bracket could be the same, depending on the year. Mercury changed over to the industrial standard starting with the inline 6's in 1984. Not sure when other Merc's joined. Others should know. What year is your 40? If it is the newer bracket, the holes should be the same.

Here are 2 pictures, one with the old bracket and one with the current. From the pictures I have collected, it looks like 1986 the 35hp changed over to the newer style
