hey all, I have a 1985 chapparal 162 runabout with a 1985 90 hp evinrude weighs around 300lb, it is tired, the boats hp rating is 90hp, I recently got a 2001 75 hp mercury 4 stroke bodensee and this motor weighs 370lb dry, can I use the mercury on my boat or do you guys think it will be too heavy, the bolt hole to the transon is the same between the two, thanks for your opinion and experience in such matters...

Re: swapping motors

If your transom is in sound condition there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to use the 4-stroke. If you feel weight distribution could be an issue, relocate the battery to a forward position. If you have portable fuel tanks in the back, moving them forward or using a bow tank would also improve weight distribution.

The 4-stroke should be more economical than your old tired 90hp and I bet performance won't be that far off from the 90, either.

thank you for the help, the transom is in great shape, the motor has the bigfoot on it and didn't want it to look stupid on the back, it would look like a merc you like, tower of power less two cylinders...
