Need some advise . I had to junk my ez loader trailer ( rust took over and tongue snapped along with a bend and split over axels
My buddy had a galvinized dual axel trailer that he gave too me for a couple of bucks. ( just to get it out of back yard )
My 21 ft 3500 lb boat fits fine lenght wise.
I stripped everything from old trailer leaving only frame.
I took rollers, axels, springs everything leaving only the bent frame.
Here are my concerns
I live in Orlando and use all year and trailer to different areas.
Driving safely is a must.
I really wanted to purchase a good used trailer but here in Fla salt eats away trailers and what I have seen are poor to okay.
The replacement trailer that my buddy gave me is 5 ft wide.
Most trailers are over 6 ft wide for this type of boat
I put my origianl rollers on as a test and boat sits nice and cradled in roller system.Even though it is not as wide as standard boat trailers the boat sat high over the fenders..
I stated earlier the replacement trailer is dual axels but the axels are hollow in middle ( light duty ) and the springs are not as strong as mine.
My axels are all steel with brakes.
Replacemnt axels are 1 ft longer which means 6 inches longer on each side
The springs are inderpendant
I try to my own work, but might have to bring in somebody.
Moving fenders out a little is no issue but I am concerned about
the wider axels. Will it effect the ride and cause swaying of boat???
The springs that are there now are rated 950 lbs total 3800 and boat weights 3500.
Any advise
I do not want to be a horror story along the road.
Most guys that I have asked for advise are trailer guys and they want to sell a trailer.
One trailer guy said retro fitting a trailer that is not designed properly could give you more greef.
Frame is very good with no rust and my old springs and axels along with brakes will make this a heavy duty trailer for very little monies
Has anybody done this ???
Please advise before I take on this project.
Thanks
