Swapping trailers

Hey guys,

I've got 2 boats, a 4.3 meter tinny sitting on a rusted out homemade trailer and a 4.6 meter fibreglass unfinished project (motor is in bits and needs a transom haha) but the trailer is a galvanized dunbier brand which is far superior to the puny rusted homemade one currently under the tinny.
I want to swap them around but the dunbier has rollers all over it (intended for fibreglass hulls only I think) whereas the homemade one currently uses skids, would this be an issue? Another thing to note is the dunbier is a good meter longer and the frame is much bigger in general. The homemade one is actually undersize (hull overhangs 1ft) so I'm hoping this one actually suits it more. With the winch post adjusted right back it's a perfect 4.3 meters to the last roller so I shouldn't have any problems with the trailer being too big hopefully. Is it a bad idea to put an alloy boat on a fibreglass trailer. Frame and suspension look identical to me, just the skid/rollers were the only difference I could see.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! cheers

Re: Swapping trailers

1 x meter = 3.28 ft

When matching boat to trailer, the boat's haul shape (and support points) must be respected. Its boat length must be within spec. Its boat width must be within spec. And, trailer tongue weight be be within spec as well. Putting a slightly smaller boat on a larger size boat trailer is often ok (if trailer adjustments are made). But putting larger size &/or larger weight boat on a smaller size trailer is a risky thing. For example, boat trailer rated for max 2,800 lbs and one loads a 3,500 lbs boat on it, the trailer's leaf springs and/or tires might be over weighted (which is a bad thing).

Hope this helps.
