I am currently thinking about installing a swim platform on my transom. I s this a fairly simple project or should I let the professionals do this? Is this procedure simple enough for someone such as myself to do(new to boating)? Thanks in advance.

If your not scared to drill holes in your transom it shouldnt be a big project. Be sure to lay it out and mark all your holes and fit it properly before you start drilling. Oh yea, use thru bolts, washers and nylon locking nuts. Be sure to seal all the holes with 3M 5200 to keep the water out.

Like Reel Poor said this is about how bad your hands will shake when you go to drill the transom . .

Also, make real sure of the height you want. I know some guy who had to remove and redrill a pair of swimsteps because they were slightly under water, I know him well. He doesn't make as many mistakes like that now . . . :^

And,.......
Be Very Careful,+ Very Sure of what's on the INSIDE of the Transom, Where you're Drilling the Holes............

Yeah, but I have one excuse. The boat had never been in the water and the builder noted the waterline. They were wrong although that particular boat was stern heavy for some reason and lead me to my love affair with trim tabs.

Ditto what Bondo said about checking the other side. It is real easy to hit stuff that's important . . .

And a backer plate to offset for any big BEER bellies might not hurt either.
