Boat Setup: I have a 17ft boat. Two battery setup hook up to a two battery switch. Main battery and switch located towards the back of the boat. Secondary battery located inside the console. I have 8 gauge power wire runningn from my battery switch to the secondary. 4 gauge for my main battery.

Problem: My switch has power when I'm on land, but when i drop the boat off in the water I lose power to the switch.

Thoughts: Maybe I dont have a large enough power wire running from the switch to the secondary battery.

Any help or suggestions would be appreicated.

Re: Switch board problem

Something loose somewhere and yes -- the wire to the secondary battery MUST be the same size as the battery cable to the engine. If you attempt to start the engine from BAT 2 or BOTH you toast that 8 gauge wire. Do you have all accessories except the automatic bilge pump fed from the COM terminal as is normal procedure? If starting the engine from the auxiliary battery is not a concern, then you should have installed a ACR (automatic charge relay) rather than a switch.

Re: Switch board problem

Thanks Slivertip for your advice. It sure enough something wasn't tighten all the way. And on top of that one of my battery connectors had rust on it. After tighten and brushing off some rust my switch broad stay on.

thanks again.
