The Potting material? Excessive Heat would soften it, but I doubt the switch box would function at that point.
A replacement is probably the only recourse

Hmmm
the box is still functioning but most of that potting mix has come out.
i Thought maybe I could replace it with something.
I live in south eastern Louisiana and it does get hot here..🥵
I tried to take a photo but I only have my iPhone and it says the picture is too large and I can’t reduce the size enough to be able to download it not sure how to download a picture.

I guess you could try cleaning it with something that leaves no residue. Then fill the void with an Epoxy Resin, but that gets pretty hot when curing. Silicones are out as they quite often contain Acidic Acid, then agin I have seen some electronics potted with what looks like Silicone.
The main purpose of the potting was to prevent the components from vibrating independently from what they are attached to

Order a new one and replace the component is telling you something, it will fail you at a very inconvenient time, avoid the tow of shame bach to the landing.

Thanks for the input, I like the epoxy idea to especially with the price of a replacement see if that will work for now and save up for a new one for a replacement in the near future.
i have used an epoxy in the past I got at Lowes I may try that and see if it works I think it’s under $15.
i will post photos as soon as I can figure this thing with my phone .
TY

you need to get a non-conductive potting epoxy

normal epoxy will not conduct heat enough and may be electrically conductive.

I was thinking it was one of 3 cylinder switch boxes, on those the potting was more exposed and like slightly soft Resin. The you you have, is the stuff leaking out like a thick Oil?
