Switch control box

I have a 1974 envinrude 50hp with the push button control for forward and reverse. Is it possible for me to change to a better control box, for instances I have a 1984 control box and cable from a 55hp will it work?

Sorry, pdante. It won't work.

The electric and electrohydraulic gear boxes only work with the electric pushbutton controls.

If you just don't care for the push buttons, a Johnson control for similar shift system will work. The switch on theirs is activated internally by moving the throttle lever.

but the controller has to be for the electric shift. the standard 2 cable shift will not work.
