Im about to purchase a close friends 1997 Bayliner Trophy with a '97 Force 120 with 220 hrs on the meter.Hes been using regular TCW3 oil for the life of the engine.I just sold a boat a few months ago and was using Penzoil semi synthetic.Would it hurt this motor at this point to switch to the semi-synthetic instead? Also hes been running 93 octane gas.Should I continue this?Ive heard that Forces are finnicky motors. Also should I decarb or just leave it alone? Is this alot of hours for this motor?

Decarb regularly. Run a search at the top of this page on decarbing.

Oil change should be ok, maybe better.

I would run only the gas that is recommended in the manual. I believe it says 87 or 89 octane for your engine. You can search this topic also, and read lots of facts, and lots of hearsay. Stick with what the book says. Higher octane than what is recommended does not give you more power, or make the engine run better, especially a 2 cycle engine.

If maintained, you should get many more hours out of engine. It has less than 1 hour per week on it.

Have fun.

I thought the oil would be better.I read somewhere though that Force motors dont like low octane gas, eventhough on the boat itself it says 85 as a minimum. Thanks
