The boat I recently purchased seems to have a bad blower motor. When I turned the switch on I could not hear any sound coming from inside the engine compartment.I bought a new switch to see if maybe that was all I needed.I replaced the new with the old and tried it out.I did not hear anything, but all of a sudden I could smell burning.I immediatly shut off the switch and disconnected the wires going to the switch. Is it possible that the wires going to the switch need to be connected the opposite(2 wire switch)? Is there somthing I should do different? thanks

CAUSE IT'LL ABSOLUTELY DRIVE YOU NUTS.. until it's known..

hate-to-be-you.. good luck ,brother..

Re: switch problem

Hi, "sounds like" the old switch was burned out by a current overload, the new switch allowed current to flow and the burning started, the problem could be a wiring short that's overheating the wire and causing the burning or possibly a siezed or dead blower motor that's overheating and causing a smoking wire or smoking motor, if you can get to the blower disconnect it and re-try with the new switch, if you still get the burning smell look for a pinched, grounded, or chafed wire problem where it goes through metal, if not I would like you suspect a bad blower motor. It would also be a good idea to check the blower wiring for damage from the burning. If the old and new switch both had only 2 wires and 2 terminals it makes no difference which wire goes to which terminal. Good luck.
