I have a 17 ft. deep v aluminum fishing boat.
I presently have a 12 volt, 36 lb. thrust bow mount trolling motor. I am thinking of getting a new trolling motor with around 50 lb of thrust. If i wanted to go to a 24 volt set up, besides the battery configuration, what extra's would have to be added? Is my wiring going to need changed? what about the plug that my present trolling motor plugs in to?

would it be better and cheaper to stick to a 12 volt system and run it on 2 batteries?

would a minn-kota all-terrain, 12 volt be a good choice?

I know this is a lot of questions, but i need all the advise i can get.

Re: Switching from 12v to 24v need wiring info

The 24v system will always perform better than a 12v system. The main reason is that for a given load (thrust) the current will be one half of what it is with the 12v set-up, and since the resistive losses increase with the square of current (P=I^2*R) the losses will be one quarter of what they would be if operating on 12v. The power that is saved will result in increased operating time.
