Switching from AT&T to Comcast - Will I Lose My Email Address?

I have had my bellsouth.net email address for many years and hope not to lose it. I am switching my ISP from AT&T to Comcast and am getting conflicting answers on whether I will lose my bellsouth or not. Some say yes unless I pay ATT&T some fee to retain it. I have also been told that AT&T bought bellsouth but has their email services handled by Yahoo and because of this I will not lose my bellsouth email.

Anybody run into this?

Oh and this move will cut my monthly bill for internet and phone service in half.

My wife is in the net business and owns a company that does websites and emails, you will loose your current email address with bellsouth.net, bellsouth.net is an AT&T property and they normally only provide email addresses to their customers.

What you need to do is call their customer service number and speak to someone at the company to explain your options to you, if you really want to keep your address, one thing my wife does, is she will forward emails to a new one when a customer switches, until they get a change to get everything updated.

That said, AT&T would have no incentive to let you keep your email address when you no longer are their customer. Call them and let them tell you what they can do.

I think similarly, when I switched from Comcast to fiberoptic DSL with Centurylink, I lost my decade plus Comcast email addy. Immediately, I was unable to send out on that addy but for about three months, I would still receive emails. That gave me plenty of time to notify everyone of my new address.

It is interesting that you will save that much switching to Comcast. I had 2 phone lines, internet and expanded basic cable TV with them. I wanted to add a DVR and that would have driven my bill up to over $200 mo. I dumped them and went with CenturyLink and Dish Network and got more stuff for 80% of the price (even after the first year promotional discounts)

The interesting thing was that the picture quality on my old rear projection Toshiba TV was markedly better than with the Comcast cable.

I have been paying AT&T about $100.00/mo. for phone and DSL service - single line. I have DirecTV and am pleased with it. AT&T's Uverse is not available in my area. AT&T's DSL was giving me 2.0 MPS on a good day with little or no customer service when I would call.

Comcast is giving me 25 MPS plus phone for $50.00/mo. for six months - no contract - plus phone service - plus WI FI. I will have to go into their local office at the end of the six months to get the "then" best deal. The worst "best deal" is still less than I am now paying AT&T.

Get yourself a Yahoo or Gmail address and be done with it.

I dealt with the same thing a few years ago--was tied into my cable company's address, since they were my ISP. But it was a PITA accessing mail from other computers.

Ironically, I got 10% of the spam with Yahoo that I USED to get.

Yeah, it's a bit of pain alerting people, changing settings on web sites, etc, to your new Yahoo address, but it's well worth it.

And with a Yahoo or Gmail email account, you could move to CHINA and still keep your address.

Nothing is free. Your email with ANY free service will be scanned and used and sold. Read the fine print

Yeah, I suspect you are right about that. I've heard it before, but I still moved from a Comcast email to Gmail just so If I do change ISPs I can just pull the cord and go.

If you really want to save money OP and have some computer skills, I will enthusiastically recommend buying a Obihai internet phone setup such as the Obi202 . As long as Google gives away its Google Voice service free there will be no mothly cost whatsoever. Just $50-$100 or so for the box, depending what you get (I have an old Obi110). Re: Switching from AT&T to Comcast - Will I Lose My Email Address?

I recently switched ISPs with a 2 week over lap. As soon as I got my new email I went into the old one set a vacation alert. The alert responds to any emails that come in and replies that the email address has been changed to newemail@newisp.com. I have no idea how long the old email will remain active but as long as it does it will respond with the new address.

I have had a gmail account since the day they started offering gmail, and I have never once received a spam or unsolicited email, that is several years now.
