switching from surface gap plugs 2000 65hp

I have a 2000 65 hp Johnson Commercial. The recommended plug is a surface gap QL16V but this plug seems to foul regularly when not run at a high rpm. Is there a gapped plug that I could use instead.

Surface gaps are the only listing on that engine.

I know the chart only shows that plug but I was wondering if that was for commercial applications where it was running at high rpm. I find for normal use the plugs foul fairly quickly. I was wondering if there was a hotter plug or normal gapped plug that I could use. I think the 70 hp is basically the same motor and it uses QL78YC which isn't a surface gap and was wondering if that would work.

Lots of the V4s call for QL16V Surface Gap or QL77JC4.

If those models can interchange, I'd say there's a good chance yours does too.

Try a NGK hotter S/G...champs aint the best in one on my motors (125 Force) either, and a zero prob with the NGK's

The cross reference to ngk show the Buhxw-1. Would this be a hotter plug or do I need a hotter one and what would that be.

I noticed some engines show an option of the QL16V surface gap or the
QL77JC4 gapped plug, my engine doesn't show that option. Am I risking damage to the engine by trying that plug or will it just effect performance?
