my boat currently has a mid 70s mercury and i am switching to a 1975 johnson 115 v4. i am wondering if the steering tube is the same on both motors and also if the throttle and shift cables are compatible. the boat is a 1987 suntracker party barge 24ft. it has morse controls.the motor i am taking off is a 85 hp.

The steering won't be the problem party barge. Steering tubes are standard for steering cables. You will have to get the right steering ling though for the engine.

The throttle and shift cables won't work either. You should look aroung for a OMC (Bomby) control box and cables. You'll also need the wiring harness also.

I just did the same thing to mine, from Mercury to Johnson. The steering tube was fine, but I did have to have a Johnson control.
