What I got:
'71 Larson w/ shot 283 Chev/Merc Stern Drive Manual Steering, etc

What I am getting:
230 V8 Mercrusier w/ alpha one drive (305 or 350 chev - not sure) Power steering From an 87 starcraft

Now question...
What am I going to need for i can start looking for a good swap? Motor is coming with everything - exhaust, gimble, drive, etc. I'm thinking a set of new controls, mine are shot anyway - Do I need new gauges? Not sure if it's coming with a new trim setup so will my current pump/motor work for this? Besides that can anyone come up with anything else?

Re: Switching motors

The main thing I would find out first, is if my boat can handle the extra horsepower, that larson boat of yours was built for a certain motor and horsepower, if that boat was never designed for the larger motor, I would look out, the transoms and stringers that you bolt the engine mounts to, can only handle so much, first do some reseach, and find out if larson ever put that large of a motor in that model, if they did, then no worrys, if they didnt, then you know the transom wont handle the hp

Re: Switching motors

Sounds like an easy and straightforward swap.
If your current gimble housing is in good shape, I would be tempted to leave it, the steering and trim etc alone. If it fails inspection then change everything.

Ayuh,..............
He'll be going from an old Mod.1 transom assembly to the newer Alpha 1 assembley.....
The Up-grade is Worth the Effort.......

Go with the Alpha trim system too,....
It doesn't use that Junk you've got mounted on the inside of your transom.....
