Re: Switching To Synthetics

Synthetics will run cleaner and with less carbon buildup.

There is no other real benefit, in spite of claims. Your engine will deliver full performance on any TC-W3 rated oil.

I switched oils from Yamalube to Pennzoil 100% Synthetic(Walmart $27/gal.) several years ago and it burns very clean with less smoke than the Yamalube. I also use the Stabil Marine and Ringfree all the time...no problems at all. Good Luck!

I bought 1 gallon of the Castrol 2S oil and hated the smell, it actually caused my eyes to burn. I used part of one tank and gave the left over fuel and oil and to buddy for his boat.

Other than the amount of visible smoke and the smell, I've never seen a noticable performance increase in a stock motor from switching oil.

GDAY guys,Iwent out fishing last night with the knew oil PENRITE SIN MARINE,rated here in australia as a supreme synthetic lubricant.I can tell you right now that i did see a significant difference in the reduction of smoke,as well as less vibration, seems as thou it runs alot smoother and quieter,as to horsepower difference it all remained the same.I think for now i will b sticking to this product........lets c how it works over time i will keep allposted...:D.

Not that it matters to me since I use Amsoil 2 cycle which is not certified TC-W3 ... but did you know that Sin Marine oil is not tc-w3 certified either... I think their add says certifiable tcw3 ... and surpasses tc-w3 ... Just food for thought ... LOL

Re: Switching To Synthetics

yeah that may b true, but here in australia 90% of people that i no with boats, and trust me its a s**t load of people have made the switch to PENRITE,they are highly recomended for there superior oils not just marine oils since 1926.Top fuel dragsters have used PENRITE and all have said the same thing about the product that its superior to anything else.Only time will tell, for now like i said i will stick with it and c how it all pans out....LIFE IS TO GOOD TO B WORKING......WE SHOULD ALL JUST FISH.:)

Re: Switching To Synthetics

Don't flop your oranges and apples (synthetic oils) into a basket and call it good for all. The top fuel dragsters have horrendous stress and heat levels besides they are 4 stroke engines. Different oils, different jobs.

Synthetics for 2 cycle engines may smell funny but that's because the oil doesn't burn like conventional motor oils do. Yes; synthetic 2 cycle oil is ashless as well as brand name TC-W oils. In essense synthetics are better than "just" ashless oils becaue they are meant to lubricate more, burn less.

I use Amsoil exclusively. I get a nasty smell on start ups but then I run cleaner and with FAR greater protection for those incidental overheats when the bait wrappers get around the intake. I find the cleaner burn is because of a lesser amount of oil needed to do the same job the "brand name stuff" did.

Back a number of years ago I ran the 100/1 stuff in my 65 Merc 650. I idled at 450 all day and had very little smoke on the troll. Today my 95 Merc 115 runs on an automatic oiler mechanism but I still run less oil and get better performance at idle speed. The smoke is neglegable compared to brand name 2 cycle oils.

That is true, very true in what you r saying, different oils for different requirements, but once again ill continue using this product and only time will tell.At the end of the day it couldn't hurt from all the positive feed back about the product.

Re: Switching To Synthetics

I have been an oil nut since a teenager. I have paid close attention to the subject my entire life (currently retired).

When Mobil 1 first came out I didn't jump on the bandwagon as I thought it to be another high-priced gimmic, but I did start paying attention to the oil and the subject of synthetics.

Years later, and many years past, I am a 100% synthetic user; that means in everything.

I use Merc's synthetic oil in my 2 cycle OB and it does all the things mentioned except smell; I smell more of my Sea Foam than anything else. Not mentioned is the fact that my plugs stay clean.

I like it it lawnmowers because of it's high heat tolerance and I can change it once per season and still have honey colored oil at the end of the season....no way with paraffin oils.

I like it in my 2 Dodge trucks because I can change it once per year and still have oil that is light brown without the brown sludge that I used to get with paraffin oils changed at 3000 to 5000 mi. intervals. I do live in a rural area and usually have less than 10,000 miles on an oil change; so this habit of mine probably doesn't apply to urban dwellers who make many short trips around town or sit in bumper to bumper traffic with the AC running. I know what the owners manual says, but these vehicles are built to be driven any place in the world and only have one, make that 2, oil change recommendations based upon light or heavy duty applications. So obviously specific usage doesn't necessarily fit the general recommendations.

I use it in my Cummins powered diesel farm tractor (the diesel syn, primarily Rotella T 5w-40) and I can still maintain light brown oil at the 300 hr. recommended oil change, rather than the black goo I used to get (in other tractors) with paraffins. I called Cummins and asked about it and they gave it high marks.

So there's my 2c.

I also went thrue all that when I switched to synthetic 2 strokes oil ... smoother idling, less vibrations, less engine noise, and a hint more power ... and all that jazz ... LOL

Cheers
