Swivel Bracket Still Stuck...

I am frustrated to witts end with my boat. I have been trying to get my swivel bracket unstuck. I have been heating the hell out of the bracket to try and loosen up the corosion inside. The boat is only 1 year old and has 20 hours on the boat and 115 Merc Outboard. How bad could it possibly be corroded? So far, I have heated the entire bracket over and over and occasionally greasing the fitting. Is there any specific area I should be greasing (Pics maybe???)? Also, should I be continiously greasing the fitting even though the grease is oozing from the top (but not the bottom) of the bracket? Is it better to put a lot of force to move the motor (two or three men) or just a little (one person)? I do not know the exact mechanics of this peice and definitely do not want to break it. Any strategy to breaking this loose will be greatly appreciated.

Lightingfast,
Go to www.marinepartsman.com they have an exploded view of your motor. I think what you are looking for is the swivel bracket - steering arm assm. Be careful heating the aluminum housing. Dont know what you are using to heat it but I wouldn't use anything hotter than a MAPP gas torch. Also try tapping with a rawhide hammer (Nylon OK). When it breaks free, try pumping some kerosene or mineral spirirts in it to clean it out. You can do this by filling a typical grease gun (not the pistol grip style use the lever style) with the solvent then pump with the gun upside down (cylinder up) so the kerosene can get in the grease gun pump.
Good Luck

Thanks for your response. It has been extremely helpful. Is the goal here to burn off and bang out the corrosion or is it to "Soften" the grease so it can work it's way into the gear? Also, should I be hammering on the bracket after I heat it or when it is cool? Thanks again!

I agree with SCATTY. Even if it sat submerged in salt water, one would doubt that you are having this much of a problem.

Re: Swivel Bracket Still Stuck...

Any other solutions on what this could be? The problem appears to be coming from the Swivel Bracket Area. When I try to turn the motor, the leverage is definitely not going to the steering linkages. Also the cable is disconnected to the outboard.
