This is a continuation of a previous thread. I am still trying to get the Swivel Housing off so I can replace the Impeller. Of the 4 Bolts I removed from the Housing, three were caked with what I suspect is dried Permatex and were dificult to get out and the 4th had very little on it and had corrosion on the threads. I have put a Rubber Mallet to the housing without success. The number of threads I have read on this Forum and the OEM Manual did not indicate it would be this difficult to remove the Housing. One reply to my previous thread indicated that Permatex is holding the the Housing to the bottom of the Upper Gearcase. Any suggestions on this? Does the housing come straight up and off after the seal is broken or does it have to taken off at an angle after the Seal is broken? Some additional tricks or procedure help please before I continue to knock it's block off.

rubber mallets are for hub caps.... get a real hammer -stick a long chisel or screwdriver through the exhaust duct with the tip against the shoulder of the w/p impeller housing (greyish part) and HIT IT! if the 4 bolts are out, it's free to come off. It comes straight up out.

Screwdriver goes in through where ring #26 is shown, down on about a 15 to 30 degree angle against #29/shoulder of #33

The picture was worth a million! Now I am going to re-read the Manual and see if that is what they were referring to. Could have sworn they were referring to taking a 12" 1/4" rod and going through the top of the Upper Gearcase and taping with a hammer.

 Never even thought of looking down the Exhaust Port on the Upper Gearcase:mad:

 Thanks for the patience and explanation kjdkjd:redface:

Wanted to update all what came out when I went to whacking:

You will notice the Swivel Housing is quite a bit longer then what is depicted in this thread. Important point might have been this drive is High Profile. The Impeller Housing (Which goes on the bottom of the Assembly in the picture) actually sticks out and is visible when the Upper Gearcase is removed. There will be no need next time to remove the Entire Swivel Housing, Bearing Housing, Shaft and Pinion Gear as a whole. Hope it goes in the way it came out. Will post actual pictures of this Unit with more detail later on. Thanks for the guidance, it really did help me figure this out.
