How do you remove this without damaging the Transom Shield? My steering just stopped working, not sure why, but it is certainly the upper steering shaft. I might have hit the outdrive while trailering. I pulled the lower pin and cant get the top shaft out. It will only move if I hit it with a hammer. It is a 2012 Chaparral with an SX-A outdrive and 165 hours in brackish water. The earlier models had an inspection cover that gave access to the top of the shaft - this one doesn't. There is no room on the inside. Is there a trick to getting this off without just banging away at either side? I tried to make a puller but there is no way to get a nut on the top of the screw. I don't care about the shaft I bought a new one. Thanks!

Follow up - I used two wedges and a hammer and then a pry bar and crow bar and worked the shaft loose without any damage to the Transom Shield. Then the plastic bushing came right out with a screwdriver.
