All, In correlation with my previous thread asking about engine replacement, I'm looking into the SX-M outdrive as well. I went to change the oil in it and discovered that it's more the color of lake-water than it is VP 75W-90.
So, I cobbled together a DIY pressure tester for $20 out of stuff from Amazon (I'm not allowed to go to HD right now per the wife). It's a DANCO Gas test gauge, a 3/4-1/4 busing, and a hose barb adapter. I then cut off the tubing from my oil fill pump and attached it. You can get a look in the picture.
Long story short - my shift mechanism seal is leaking. QUESTION: Do I just replace the shift mechanism seal and hope to get lucky or do I go more invasive? The seal in question is 853868 with matching o-ring 925093. As an FYI, I don't know that the outdrive has ever had more than basic service, but even the prop shaft wasn't leaking, so I assume that it is in relatively good shape. The pressure test had to get up to >6PSI before the leak showed, and it only slowly leaked at that (about 1PSI in 1 minute).
