I have a 3.0L Volvo Penta GSM-A with an SX outdrive. I noticed yesterday that I have a hole in the large rubber housing thing (bellows?) There are two rubber boots coming from the back of the motor into the outdrive, this is the large top one.

What is this? What could have caused a hole? What damage could the hole have caused? Thanks for any help!

Re: SX outdrive-hole in bellows

Yeah, that is your u-joint bellow. You don't want water in there, so you'll have to have your bellows replaced. Alot of threads on here and check youtube for some vids of the problem and work involved to replace.

The one on the bottom is exhaust bellow.

The bellows are rubber. Probably wore out and a hole developed.

If salt water got in there your gimble bearing will die soon. Replace it when u do the bellow.
