SX reverse question

Being new to IOs I'm not sure what to expect. How long a delay is there when shifting into reverse? My SX always shifts immediately into forward but very often when shifting into revese the unit stays in neutral then I rev the engine, then it shifts into reverse. This usually happens while docking with the crew being knocked off their feet.
Is there an adjustment for this?
('95 Volvo 5.0 FL w SX drive)
Thanks for any help.

Re: SX reverse question

ouch
not only is that a good way to injure someone its a recipe to launch the upper shaft/bearing through the bearing cap.
carefully check the oil level, overfull can hinder shifting.
carefully check the shift cable adjustment. carefully check the shift shoe adjustment.
if all external issues are eliminated its time to look at the cone and shaft bearings.

Re: SX reverse question

It definately shouldn't be doing that.. You will damage the outdrive and everything between the motor and the propellor doing that.. You need to get the shift cables adjusted (or get the manual and do it yourself) before you brake something.

Re: SX reverse question

Thanks for all the advice. I have the manuals for the carb and the SX drive. They explain how to install the cables but not much about adjustment. Are the adjustments all at the remote control?
